Gaia, also called Bee by her parents, is an oboist and teacher located in New York City. As a young student, she studied reed-making with Carolyn Hove, the English hornist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and went on to further pursue the craft under the tutelage of Richard Killmer, Professor of Oboe at the Eastman School of Music and renowned reed-maker.
She believes that functional, well-crafted, beautiful reeds are the musician's conduit to making music through the oboe. As a reed-maker, she focuses on creating a stable, resonant, and responsive reed that allows the player to forget it's even there, and focus on one's tone and musical intention.
